1. On start up I receive the message "QuickTime installation is not complete!. Please install QuickTime with all components again.". Check to see that you have used the RECOMMENDED installation of Apple Quicktime 6.0 or later. You may wish to install the latest version, if so be sure to use the "Recommended" install, rather than the "Custom" or "Minimum". If you have to reinstall we recommend you uninstall first. -top- |

2. All IPTC caption fields have the words "Image Info Toolkit" appear when they are saved, how can I stop this from happening? This phrase is inserted each time a file is saved from a "demo" or unregistered version of the software. When you register your version you will be issued a serial number that will stop this from happening. You will also be able to save an unlimited number of images, rather than the maximum of 200 with the unregistered version. -top- |

3. You say that Mac OS 9.2.2 is recommended, but can I run it on a Mac using an earlier OS? You can also run IIT under Mac OS 9.1 if you have CarbonLib 1.6 installed. For best performance and stability we recommend Mac OSX. -top- |

4. Is there an easy way to update to the latest version without having to re-enter my serial number and re-import my keywords and templates? IMPORTANT: IF YOU MAKE AN UPDATE FROM VERSION 1.5 TO 2.0 YOU WILL NEED A NEW SERIAL NUMBER. EVEN IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTION BELOW. Yes, however, since the Image Info Toolkit operates differently on Mac and Windows platforms, please carefully follow the instructions below: Mac: Download the latest version of the IIT and save it to your hard drive. For back-up purposes make a copy of your old Image Info Toolkit program folder. Open the old program folder and copy the file which file ends with ".data" from your old program folder into the new one. If your operating system prompts you, asking if you want to replace the existing file, check Yes or OK. Make sure, that the ".data" file has the same name before the dot as the application file name! If not, rename the ".data" file to the name of the application plus the ".data" ending. Windows : Download the latest version of the IIT and save it to your hard drive. For back-up purposes make a copy of your old Image Info Toolkit program folder. Open the old program folder and copy the files with the suffixes named ".4DD" (aka 4D Data File) and ".4DR" (aka 4D Data resource file) from your old folder into the new program folder. If your operating system asks you if you want to replace the already existing files, check Yes or OK. You always have to copy both files, as they work together as a set. Make sure, that the two files have the same name before the dot as the application file name! If not rename the two files to the name of the application. Do not change the suffix! -top- |

5. I need to enter a large number of items under one section in the keyword catalog, but the program keeps jumping forward to the synonym field. To stay in the same field simply press and hold the CTRL/COMMAND key while typing Tab or Enter, the cursor will stay in the field you were in when you hit the Enter key. -top- |
|
6. I misspelled a word in my keyword catalog, is there an easy way to correct this? Yes, just press and hold the CTRL/COMMAND key while double-clicking on the misspelled word. 7. After using the IIT, and opening the image in Photoshop, the checkbox titled "mark as copyrighted" and the "URL" fields are now empty. Unfortunately, not all fields with Adobe Photoshop are fully IPTC compatible. These features will not be missed in most other applications, as these fields aren't recognized by other IPTC compatible applications. -top- |
| 8. I re-imported a set of keywords I had previously saved, but now I've got doubles of all of the different "branches". The default for importing keywords is to leave the existing keywords intact UNLESS you check the box that says "overwrite keywords." If you want to get rid of the doubles simply import the same set of keywords but be sure to check the "overwrite keywords" box before clicking OK. -top- |
|
9. I want to share my keyword catalog data with another user, is there an easy way to do this? There are two ways of exporting your keyword catalog data. One, is by using the menu export which will export the complete catalog. You can also export a single "branch" of your keyword catalog by dragging a keyword branch or a part of a branch over the little floppy disk icon in the Keyword Catalog window (between the "trashcan" and "home" icons). -top- |
|
10. Is there a way to use the find feature in the keyword catalog when I can't remember exactly how I spelled the original term? To keep performance at its peak, the Find feature in the keyword catalog searches only the 4D index for full words that exactly match the search word. If you want to search on a partial word (a "string" in database terminology) then substitute the "*" (asterisk) or "@" (at) symbols as your "wildcard." This will take a little longer, but you'll find the term you are after. For example, if you entered "babies" and then later search for "baby" you'll get an error message stating, "keyword 'baby' doesn't exist." If you type "bab*" or "bab@" into the Find window, you'll find your term (as well as other terms starting with "bab", like baboon, and baby's breath). -top- |
